I'm Tashanda! I have always loved candles, but after becoming frustrated when I could never find the scents that I wanted, I decided to make my own. I still never imagined that my love of candles would turn into a business, but after receiving compliments from family and friends, (who were my guinea pigs), that is exactly what happened. And no, it was not overnight because I still have a family and I was still working a full-time job.So for a few years, my candle business was more of a pop-up shop and holiday gift idea—until the pandemic hit. And if dealing with a global crisis wasn’t enough, I also lost my mother, Jane, who I was very close to. During this very uncertain time, my candle making became more than just a hobby or my “side hustle”. Making my candles allowed me to focus on something beyond my grief as I tried to create a new normal of living in a world without the physical presence of my mother. And my mother always loved my candles, so the birth of Jane’s Flame was a great way to marry my love of candles with my love for my mother and her light.Read their story
