About Tugende Design We make gorgeous, unique & colorful jewelry,bracelets,bags from paper beads, together with 5 groups of women artisans in Uganda. Our social enterprise business initiative supports and uplifts women in poverty by providing a marketplace for the beautiful jewelry and accessories we make together. We reinvest 20% of our profit in the communities by supporting health and women empowerment projects. Production Methods Our jewelry is handmade with love in Uganda by the women on the Tugende Design team. These women live in poverty and face many hardships but are incredibly talented artisans. We use recycled papers from magazines, books and left over scraps from printing shops which are cut into thin strips and rolled into beads. These beads are then varnished 5 times for durability and then made into necklaces, bracelets, earrings and bags. We pride ourselves on our teamwork and social enterprise approach to support the 5 groups of women who work with us using fair trade and ethical practices.
