About Happy pads

Happy Pads was born from a life-changing realization during my time as a university student in Ethiopia, Africa. I discovered that many female students were using pieces of old mattresses as substitutes for sanitary pads due to a lack of affordable and safe options. This heartbreaking situation fueled my determination to find a better solution. Through research, I learned that most sanitary pads on the market contain harmful chemicals that can cause rashes, allergies, and even serious conditions like cervical cancer. On top of that, these products take over 500 years to degrade, creating a devastating environmental impact. Determined to make a difference, my sister and I created a patented design for biodegradable, chemical-free sanitary pads and tampons. These products prioritize women’s health, comfort, and the planet. Our journey has been one of resilience and recognition. We’ve won multiple global competitions for our innovative work, including being recognized as changemakers. One of our proudest moments was being acknowledged by Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, for our impact and leadership. Happy Pads is more than a brand—it’s a movement to provide women everywhere with safe, sustainable menstrual products while protecting the planet for future generations. Read their story
