I'm Rafael Lacarcel, owner of Roberto Ley. I still look at the shoes on the production line and remember my grandfather walking through it, with his tailored suit, his hat and of course, his greatest pride, his shoes. Unpolluted, impeccable, he was already 80 years old, but he felt that he should be there. The beginnings were complicated. It all started after a civil war that ended in 1939. My grandfather Juan Lacarcel Gil, 29 years old, began to rebuild his life. The city of Almansa, with an important relationship with footwear, gave the opportunity to start a new start in the sector. Once they established a good relationship with many customers, their economy improved, and they were able to buy their first car, a Ford Cuba. Between 1955 and 1956, he began making his own shoes in the courtyard of his house in Almansa, where my grandmother Elia cut them, sewed them and finished them. This is how they made progress until 1959, when they established their first shoe factory. In 1960 my grandfather suffered the first of the three heart attacks he had. Practically inexperienced, my father had to take over the business at the age of 16, having to leave his studies. And so, learning from the best teachers that life can give you, the essence of creating is born a brand that transmits to our items, all those acquired and inherited experiences with the passage of time. These are the sensations that I try to reflect in every pair of Roberto Ley's shoes.
