Description
Codd Bottles were invented in 1872 by British engineer Hiram Codd specifically for carbonated drinks. Instead of a cap, the carbonation forced a glass marble against a rubber washer in the neck to seal the bottle. When you wanted to drink, you would push the marble down into a chamber in the bottles neck, where it would rattle around while you poured making a very distinctive sound and look. Collectors prized these bottles due to their quirky design and historical link to early soda. These bottles were primarily used in Europe and may still have an embossed name and/or location along the base. Each bottle is hand blown glass and due to its again (almost 80+ years old) there may be slight chips or flea bites in the glass. Each bottle measures 6-7" h x 3" diameter ***Please check out a separate listing for the set of 12 bottles in original wooden crate
