Curiosity: The history of mayonnaise dates back to 1756 when on the island of Minorca, the nephew of Cardinal Richelieu, the Duke of Richelieu, took residence on the island, ousting English rule. To celebrate this victory, he offered a lavish banquet for his troops, and the chef, for the occasion, wanted to prepare a first egg-based sauce. This first sauce did not achieve the result the chef hoped for, so he opted to recreate the mixture of eggs and oil he had seen prepared by the inhabitants of the island of Minorca.
