These rectangular tableaux are a modern adaptation of a traditional Tutsi art form in Rwanda. Traditionally, a paste using cow dung, ash and clay (the ash eliminates all bacteria and odor) create a bas-relief design in geometric patterns which are then painted in vivid colors. In modern times artists excelling in the craft have proliferated and their designs have become increasingly creative. This painting measures 11 3/4 x 11 3/4" (30 x 30 cm)
