Inspired by ancient standing stones that once marked sacred sites and gathering places, this sculptural holder carries the feeling of earth memory and stillness. Its form rises like a weathered monolith - grounded, steady, timeless. Carved spiral motifs flow across the surface, echoing ancient symbols of cycles, movement, and the continual turning of life. These markings resemble stone carvings worn by centuries of wind and rain, holding stories without words. The earthy glaze settles into deep tones of soil, rock, and ash, with pale highlights catching the carved patterns like traces of moonlight on stone. Designed for simple ritual use, the holder can cradle a candle or support a smudge stick, allowing flame or fragrant smoke to rise gently from its centre. From creating the form, to hand making each batch of glaze, to hand carving and hand painting the designs, many variances are found at each stage of the process. Each piece is mindfully created in my studio over a number of weeks, with each finished piece having its own subtle differences. That is the beauty of handmade.
