Wood is very light and slightly rough unpolished. Marker marks on the exterior of one of the board sets. No pouch to store the pieces. Thought pieces would arrive in a pouch but instead they were in a plastic wrapper not meant for repeat use. Closures are elastic and a bit tricky to open and close for people with larger hands or physical challenges. Cute but not a fit for us!
