It was a quiet summer afternoon. The sun was shining through the windows of my grandmother's sun room, the birds were chirping, and the dogs were taking their afternoon nap outside. Referred to as Babushka, grandma was sitting in her rocking chair crocheting a lace tablecloth. I sat next to her feet on a little stool. “Babushka, can you teach me to crochet?” I asked. Babushka has heard this request many times before, and always responded with, "You're still too young", or "I will teach you when you grow a little more”. But this time her response was different. She looked at little 5-year-old me, sighed, smiled, and got up to get another crochet hook and a ball of thread. Babushka came back with the needed tools, sat back down, and the journey of a maker began there, on a beautiful sunny afternoon, at my grandmother's feet.Read their story
