(Maurice Druon, The Cursed Kings, Volume 1, “The Iron King”) L'is a very fine traditional pastry, cooked like a waffle and like a waffle, between the two plates of an iron, then often rolled into a hollow cylinder. This delight dates from the Middle Ages! Still shaped like an elongated loaf, it was first served on certain days of fasting and at solemn feasts.
