It all changed when I dropped a bar of soap on a day when my hip was hurting. It wasn’t so much a Eureka moment, but I thought there should be a way for a bar not to slip from your hand. So, I got out some modeling clay, formed it into an oval, created some points on one side, fired it in the oven to harden — and attached it to the soap bar in the shower. It worked. This oval design was enough of a contact point for the bar to no longer slip out of my hand. After a few days of the oval being on the soap bar, I noticed that where the bar sat, there was no more gooey residue on the bath ledge. I realized it was because all the water was draining from the bar and it could completely breathe and dry. Nice. Then, a couple of weeks later, I noticed the bar seemed to last longer than ever. Since that’s something that can be measured, I did and discovered the soap bar’s life last was extended by about 30%. Meaningful. That started me down the entrepreneurial path to developing, refining, patenting, and manufacturing — and this year, we will hit 1 million. Some people have said that this small design is ‘genius’ in how such a simple device can profoundly impact something as basic as a bar of soap. There is nothing else available like this — that attaches to the bar, is as effective, impacts on a personal level (doesn’t slip / no mess), and can touch everyone’s life with more than 500 billion soap bar users globally.
