Hello, My name is Maria Hallas and I’m the artisan candle maker behind Sussex Special. Ever since I made my first candle, I've loved making and sharing them with friends and family. Whenever there is a special occasion, I make a candle for the person who is celebrating. It is always nice to see them light up with happiness when they realise what they are receiving. The fact that I can make something that brings joy to people only gives me more incentive to keep on making more candles. Each time I make a new batch of candles, they bring back beautiful memories, and the best part about the candles is their aroma. The fragrances remind me of a first valentine, or a first home, family reunions, Christmas holidays, even a first kiss! What I learned on my journey is that scents really do evoke memories, and that aroma can endure long after the candle is gone. It all started in our home kitchen in 2020, my husband and I were having a conversation about what it takes to make a candle business. What began as an idea to sell candles for a local fair has blossomed into a small business. We started with just 5 candles, each one lovingly handmade by ourselves using only British suppliers. One of the most wonderful things about our business is the way our customers respond to our candles. Our customers love that our luxury artisan candles are non-toxic, hand poured in small batches, and made in the UK. They love being able to get something special for themselves or their loved ones.
