Room-3 was founded on a simple belief: furniture should carry depth, character, and a lasting connection to the material it comes from. The name Room-3 was inspired by the classical Chinese phrase “入木三分” (Rù Mù Sān Fēn), which literally means “carved three-tenths of an inch into the wood.” The expression originates from an ancient story about calligraphy so powerful and precise that the brush strokes were said to penetrate deep into the wood beneath the paper. Over time, the phrase came to represent mastery, dedication, and craftsmanship that goes beyond the surface. This idea resonated deeply with our founder when he established the studio in Toronto. Woodworking, like calligraphy, is a discipline that demands patience, sensitivity, and respect for the material. Every grain, every knot, and every natural variation tells part of a story.
