About I Own It Designs

In 2019, a close friend shared news about her breast cancer diagnosis. As I processed this news, I searched for paint and canvas that I had stored some time before and I started to paint. In the layering of the various colors, clear silhouettes emerged. They “felt” nuanced, complex, resilient and courageous--much like my friend. I have always lived with original art but, in that moment, I realized that art is an ultimate reminder of our own resilience, power and memories. Own it Designs, Inc emerged to bring you Power Reminders that you can wear or experience daily! This black-owned, woman-owned business was born out of the distinct intention of grounding, celebrating and propelling you through artistic designs. Each item is exclusively made or hand-touched by artists and makers who have risen above adversities to thrive in their purpose. My goal is to cultivate moments of self-care and self-celebration through each authentically designed piece. I am an artist, product designer, idea cultivator, and mother living in New York City. I draw inspiration from my own life exchanges and the lives of makers with whom I partner to bring this global lifestyle brand to life. The logo is an interpretation of the Sankofa bird from the Akan people of Ghana, Africa. Sankofa emphasizes the beauty and necessity of moving forward, guided yet free while looking back at critical lessons from the past.
