About Freckled Illustrations

I strive to connect people to nature and animals using my visual concept to create a secret window into that world where people can "see themselves" back into nature by having this interactive artwork. Abstract paintings are created using brilliant watercolors as a base. I then layer the colors, etching into the paper for detail and building texture. The Illustration is drawn over the painting with graphite for extensive detail, shading, and perspective. Additional layers of color with copic, gel pen, and/or ink are added to highlight specific animal and environmental characteristics. The animal has Tiny people hidden for scale, interest, and as a metaphor to help humans keep the animal on the planet. The artwork is mounted to wooden panel and sealed with archival spray, and several layers of museum quality encaustics. The "open" nature of the end product allows the viewer to get up close to the image, and hopefully allowing for complete emergence into what the piece has to offer! Read their story
