About Spicer Bags

Founded in 2000, Spicer Bags designs and manufactures all of our products in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Our focus is on quality workmanship, contemporary design, and durability. We are proud to say that each and every one of our products is made in America. The cork materials we use are sourced in Italy and Portugal. When possible we try to be as eco-friendly as possible and are adding more organic and vegan products to our line. A bit about cork and how it is possible to use it for handbags- The Cork Oak is the only tree that benefits from the removal of its bark! It is truly an eco-conscious and sustainable natural resource. The same tree can be harvested every 8-10 years. Once harvested, the tree absorbs about 5 times the CO2, making harvesting an important process in reducing greenhouse gases. Our cork is harvested from the Cork Oak tree. Once the cork is harvested it is boiled, dried, and shaved into thin sheets that are sealed with a non-toxic preservative. The cork is then fused to a soft fabric backing, ideal for bag making, and many other uses. It is eco-friendly, sustainable, animal friendly, and PETA approved. Once the cork fabric is ready to be used it will be stain-resistant, water-resistant, scratch-proof, hypoallergenic, antimicrobial, lightweight, incredibly soft, and flame retardant.
