About Uni & Umi

Hello, my name is Jess! I’m an artist and illustrator based in Detroit, MI who specializes in kawaii art and all things cute! I graduated from The College for Creative Studies with a BFA in Illustration and a minor in Creative Writing. During the Pandemic and my last year in college, I was struggling mentally and physically, so I wanted to go back ALL the way to the reason I started to draw: to comfort myself. So, Uni & Umi started while I was lonely and sad one day. I created two characters that can be anyone’s friends. Uni is a purple Unicorn who radiates magic and joy, while Umi is my childhood persona. They find comfort and peace in each other through their adorable companionship. Many of my products are centered around them, the idea of friendship, and cuteness. Read their story
