The Lakehouse Story.. Adriana Ernst ’17 discovered both her entrepreneurial spark and creative eye for photography while studying at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Lake Superior’s North Shore, she began to dream bigger—blending artistry with business. After graduation, Adriana partnered with her college roommate and fellow UMD alumna Hannah Knutson ’18, to turn a shared vision into reality: Lakehouse Candle Co. Born from their deep love for Minnesota’s lake life, the brand quickly gained a loyal following for its authenticity, craftsmanship, and connection to place. Founded in 2020, Lakehouse Candle Co. specializes in hand-poured, wooden-wick soy candles made with clean ingredients and signature scents that evoke the comfort, nostalgia, and serenity of Minnesota’s lakes. From gift shops to art fairs, to their thriving online store, Adriana and Hannah built a brand that celebrates meaningful memories tied to beloved waters. One of their most popular offerings? A customizable candle experience that allows customers to select a specific lake—creating a scent and label that’s as personal as the memories it honors. In 2025, Adriana took the reins as the sole owner of Lakehouse Candle Co., and celebrated the next chapter by opening a charming retail storefront in Waconia, Minnesota, where the spirit of the lakes continues to shine through every hand-poured creation.
