About The Greatwood Candle Co.

In 2017 I was approaching a landmark birthday and my daughter was in her last year at primary school. I decided that I needed to try something different, so I ordered my first “make your own candles kit”. Very quickly I became obsessed with how difficult it was to make that perfect candle. I learnt about wax tunnelling, mushrooming, hot scent throw, cold scent throw, wicks. That was all before I got down to my favourite bit –The Fragrance! I spent some time with a perfumer learning how to blend fragrance notes and quickly decided that if I was going to stand out from the crowd, I needed to make my own fragrances. This though just added to the complexity of the process. ​It took a year of testing waxes, wicks and fragrances but from those beginnings The Greatwood Candle Co. has been developed. All my candles are hand poured by me, Louise, in my studio at my Oast House, and the scents have all been inspired by the coast, countryside and history around us in East Sussex. I now use a mix of Coconut Oil and Rapeseed Oil wax in my candles as it is completely free from paraffin, soy, palm, beeswax and synthetic additives ​Our fragrances are a mixture of essential oils and fragrance oils and are vegan and cruelty free.
