Wooldreamers is a yarn company specializing in Spanish wool with an aim to reestablish the cultivation of natural fibers in Spain, the country of origin of Merino sheep. With a lineage tracing back to the middle ages, the Merino breed was once fiercely guarded for its superior wool—in fact, it was prohibited to take them out of the country! Today, Merino is one of the most prevalent wool fibers in commercial and handmade woolens, yet the cultivation of merino wool in Spain has fallen to the wayside. Merino are a multipurpose sheep, and for decades meat and dairy production has taken precedence over wool raising practices. Wooldreamers has built relationships with ranchers raising Merino wool and other heritage sheep to promote the preservation of these beloved breeds and the lands they graze on. This ecological stewardship improves the quality of the pastures the sheep graze on- which in turn improves the quality of the wool produced. The enhancement of the wool fibers through compassionate ranching practices ensures a high quality of life for the sheep for generations to come!
