About Fogoosherie

What does your name mean? Fogoosherie is a store that sells fogoosh. But what, you might wonder, is fogoosh? Fogoosh (fɞ - gʉʃ) is formally defined as “nice stuff.” It is derived from the more general Russian term, фигня (“fignya”), meaning “stuff.” As you can see, the addition of the “sh” sound as well as a couple of cute round o’s is what makes it nice. Fogoosh is more than just material things. It’s an attitude. A state of mind. A way of life. We specialize in whimsical and lighthearted science-themed fogoosh, because we know that it can be hard to find presents for the geeks or science-types. That is why Sasha created a cute collection of sciency fogoosh: postcards, herbariums, greeting cards, and stationary. Sasha designs all our products by herself, and handmade some of them at our home in New England. To create other things we collaborate with companies located in the US or Canada. Who are you? We are Sasha and Ethan. Sasha Khristich, PhD, founded Fogoosherie along with her husband Ethan Hoffmann, PhD, Conceptual Semi-Assistant in spring 2020. We are scientists by training—a molecular biologist and an experimental psychologist—both with a deep appreciation for art and design.
