At Venezianas we work with Italian designers and artisans. We collaborate with local suppliers and professionals in the region where they are manufactured. We are concerned with following tradition in the use of materials, seeking a final result that differentiates us as a special and distinguished product from the rest. Our story begins in the Italian region of Friuli, in the 19th century when they were used as party or ceremony footwear. Over time, they became a characteristic and essential element of life in Venice. Mostly used by nobles and gondoliers. Hence the name by which they are also known: “Venetian”. Comfortable, non-slip and not harmful to wood, they were and are perfect to wear on boats, hence their popularity among Venice gondoliers. Also contributing to their popularity were their use by Venetian nobles, who, elegantly, used them to welcome guests in their palaces. Over the years they have become a popular product, and numerous artisans and designers have given them life with different varieties. Velvets, prints, satin, silks and cotton, together with fantasies and colors, have given them a unique personality. We strive to continue the Italian tradition by adding our reinterpretation of the classics.
