About Klaede

Olivia Christensen is the founder and artist behind klæde. Olivia studied visual communications and design in San Francisco, and there, established klæde as a way to express her love for timeless fashion and color. Olivia paints each kerchief design by hand in her home studio in Seattle, Washington. She designs and creates her prints with watercolor and acrylic paints, which are scanned and printed on a custom silk/cotton fabric blend. This unique fabric combines the soft, smooth textures of silk with the breathable, washable structure of cotton. The company name is a nod to Olivia's Nordic heritage -- klæde means cloth in Danish. Since her childhood, Olivia has been inspired by Danish textile design in her patterns. Furthermore, Olivia is inspired by vintage patterns from generations past.
