It all started one dark and blustery night - like so many good tales. I couldn't sleep and sat up listening to the wind howl outside thinking about what I planned to make the following day in my photographic darkroom. As the sun rose, but the wind continued to howl, Alchemi Art was born. My name is Mara and I'm a photographic artist based on the beautiful Durham Heritage Coast. Since its humble beginnings in the middle of a stormy night, my cyanotype and lumen images (created using cameraless photographic techniques from the 1840s) have taken on a life of their own as Alchemi Art. Following on from the success of exhibiting and selling direct at events and art markets we are now offering our best-selling greeting cards here on Faire. I work out of my own studio where I am helped by Pebbles the dog (aka ‘Madame da Woof’ and expert listener to my latest ideas), Salem the cat (aka ‘His Lordship’ and studio supervisor from his cushion by the radiator), and last but not least my husband Ian (master of moral support and packing of boxes).
