For too long the beauty industry has overlooked alcohol as a key ingredient in popular fragrances, despite deodorants and other beauty products expelling this same component. It’s time fragrance lived by the same standards. Mainstream perfume contains around 65-80% denatured-alcohol (ethanol) to ‘carry’ the essential oils that make up the perfumes’ core. Rather, alcohol can actually dissolve oils, meaning it can disturb the hydrolipidic film of your skin or hair; a natural barrier that protects the skin and hair from harmful environmental pollutants. Therefore, alcohol is known as a drying agent for skin and hair and can lead to de-pigmentation of the skin when exposed to the sun.
