STEAM95 aims to promote unique, original and quality products produced in Africa. We are happy to offer you the magnificent Basotho blankets whose history is parallel to that of Lesotho. In 1860, King Mosheoshoe I, the founder of Lesotho, received a wool blanket as a gift, and immediately had the idea of improving it to use it as a cloak in the traditional style, as animal skins were worn. Basotho blankets are an integral part of daily life in Lesotho. They are given during important life events - birth, maturity, marriage. People wear it folded around their shoulders and draped over their body, to keep them warm but also to show off their best. Each design has its own meaning.
