It all began in 1946 when the Levenson brothers founded a small curtain shop in Montreal called Commonwealth Curtain Company. The name was inspired by founder Saul Levenson's service in the Royal Canadian Air Force's Commonwealth Flying Squadron during World War II. For over seven decades, Commonwealth grew into a leader in home fashions. In the early days, the brothers traveled the world discovering unique textiles and designs. By the 1950s, they were operating two factories in England to produce their quality window treatments. The company expanded by acquiring an American brand in the 1970s - foreshadowing Commonwealth's future as an international name in home decor. Over the years, the family navigated changes in styles, manufacturing, and technology to build the business. Today, the third generation leads Commonwealth into the future while preserving traditions. Their facilities in New York and Montreal hum with activity as they design new collections and fill cushions with eco-friendly recycled bottle fiber. The same innovative spirit that led the founders to source exotic fabrics around the globe now inspires Commonwealth's brands. Thermaplus blackout curtains, Thermalogic temperature regulating panels, and Outdoor Decor collections continue the legacy of quality, beauty, and purpose.
