About Sanctuary Herbs of Providence

Sanctuary Herbs of Providence was created by Christina Dedora in 2017 in order to create a network of Rhode Island farmers to grow culinary and medicinal herbs. Sanctuary has contracted with a dozen Rhode Island farmers—the majority of whom are women from Laos, Uganda and Rwanda. We buy fresh herbs from the farmers and bring them into our drying facility (certified) to process (garble), blend and package—we create exquisite products for both herbal tea and culinary use. As CEO, Christina Dedora, understands first hand the difficulties of small scale farming. She began her farming career by accident in France working on an organic vegetable farm in 1994. Christina fell in love with farming, working with the earth and the deliciousness of the bounty. Upon returning home there was no other occupation that fed her heart’s delight. A farmer herself for over 20 years, she has knowledge of growing herbs and many connections with farmers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Some of our unique herbal tea blends include: Cloud Nine (spearmint, holy basil, lavender); Glitter (lemon verbena, peppermint, ginger, lemon grass; Kia’s Calm (peppermint, holy basil Rama) and Chang’s Tisane (lemon verbena and Thai Basil). Some of our catchy culinary blends are: Herbs de Providence, Herbs di Federal Hill and the Hen House Blend to celebrate our wonderful, small and quirky state of Rhode Island. Read their story
