About Glina Destillerie

Glina, first mentioned in 1238, comes from Slavic and means something like clay and clay. The current place name Glindow was derived from this. The Slavs who settled this area found water and fish abundance, fertile soil, as well as clay and clay to build their houses. At the end of the 19th century, when our families from East Prussia and Silesia settled here, they began to settle on the Elisabethhöhe estate. The initial field size was limited to 4 Prussian acres of land, equivalent to today's size of one hectare. Since the 14th century, Glindow belonged to the Cistercian order “Kloster Lehnin” and was a winegrower until the middle of the 18th century. The harsh frost winter of 1739/40 brought the end of mass viticulture, because King Frederick II had demanded that Werder and Glindow and the surrounding villages of the Mark stop growing viticulture and grow grain to feed his soldiers. Since then, cereal cultivation has been based in our field. “The first settler”, the farmer who mows the grain with a scythe, has been our symbol of good handmade whiskey since the existence of our distillery.
