This is the story of one tough broad. A Nashville woman named Evelyn, who, back in 1965, lost her husband overnight, leaving her with four children and no way to provide for them. Friends and neighbors had long praised her cakes, pies, and donuts. So she pulled together that Southern scrappiness and decided to open a restaurant. The Daylight Donut Shoppe became famous across the city for its pies (especially the secret family recipe Chocolate Cream). More than that, it was a place to gather and enjoy a treat made with real extracts, real sugar, real butter—and lots of it. One of those four children was our founder’s mother. He grew up in a household where baking was a way of showing love, sharing wisdom, bringing comfort, and spreading joy.Read their story
