About Mary and the Locks

Mary and the Locks, or Marianne Lock (1987), graduated in Illustration at Willem de Kooning academy in 2009. Ever since she has been drawing, designing, building, animating and directing. In short: making stuff in different media, either commissioned or free. Whatever she does, it’s always handmade, playful, fresh and childlike, however not only suitable for children. The animal series started in 2015 with an Instagram drawing challenge. Since then the collection grew to almost a hundred animals and it is ever expanding. Marianne doesn’t discriminate, but she particularly loves weird creatures, such as the elephant shrew or the giant anteater. On paper her animals have slightly exaggerated noses, ears or legs so that they really get their own character.Read their story
