Hello. My name is Melissa and I started Carolina Mountain Soap Company. I am a disabled Army Combat Army Veteran, am married to my husband of 21 years, am a mom of 4 boys, a youth leader, a goat farmer, an adjunct professor, and I work in the IT department at Montreat College. During my tour in Iraq, I found that I was allergic to the cheaper laundry detergents that the laundry service used to wash our clothes. I ended up washing my clothes by hand in the sink. I also have a skin sensitivity to certain top brand soaps, as well as a sensitivity to the sun. My doctor told me to use Dove. In 2019, I started making soap and decided to give it to my friends and family. I started selling my soaps in May 2020, first to friends, coworkers, and family, and then in my local community. My homemade soaps have helped with my eczema and dry skin issues. I make soap because I can control the ingredients and the look of the soap. I enjoy the artistic side of soap making and use skin safe colorants and fragrance oils to make a wide variety of soaps with varying scents. Each bar of soap is personally tested by me on a white cotton wash cloth (to test for color transfer). My soaps may have a simple design of colors and swirls, or may have a more intrinsic design. I take care to design soaps that I love that you will also love. My soap designs change with the seasons because I believe that they can be decorative as well.Read their story
