About The Luminary and Co.

Formerly known as Mose Mary and Me, The Luminary & Co began in December of 2015, when founder Stephanie Kauffman found herself suddenly without a job, deep in the holiday season, and still determined to give meaningful gifts to the people she loved. A comedian at the time and very much broke, Stephanie decided to make prayer candles with a playful twist — the very first design featuring Mr. Rogers. What began as a one-off gift quickly turned into something more when friends began asking for candles featuring their own favorite icons. To afford the very first orders, Stephanie donated plasma. A friend posted the candles on Facebook. Requests started pouring in. Stephanie scraped together $13 for her first paper cutter and opened a tiny online shop — unaware she had just planted the seed for what would become a nationally loved brand. Over the years, The Luminary & Co grew from a handful of handmade gifts into a thriving New Orleans-based studio with a small, devoted team creating candles designed to bring light, laughter, and levity into people’s homes. Every piece is still rooted in that original spirit: playful reverence, heartfelt connection, and the belief that joy can be a form of care. Stephanie is supported by Jess, who ensures each order carries a little warmth, humor and humanity with it. The Luminary & Co also supports community projects and creative initiatives through its affiliated spiritual community, the Assembly of Universal Becoming.Read their story
