St. Michael the Archangel is the mighty leader of all angels and of the army of God, which is where we get "Archangel" from- he ranks above the other angels. We know very little about St. Michael, but he is found several times in scripture: twice in Daniel, once in the Epistle of St. Jude, and once in Revelation (when he and the angels battle with the dragon). He is a mighty defender, and we have this beautiful prayer to ask that he protect us: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
