The primary purpose of the Jam Jar is for bottling jam and similar preparations (such as fruit pastes and jellies). Jams do not require the use of a water bather or pressure canner for sterilisation and hermetically sealing the jar. Sterilising the jars and lids in the oven, and hot packing the jam is sufficient.
