When Kathryn and I were planning our honeymoon, New Zealand was an easy choice due to our love for the outdoors. We decided to hike the famous Milford Track, and during our preparations, our guides introduced us to a product we'd never heard of—loose merino wool for blister prevention. Though skeptical, we gave it a try, and it worked wonders, especially in the rain-soaked environment of New Zealand, where even calloused feet can quickly blister. And just like that, the idea for Wūru was born on the trail, between Quintin Lodge and Sutherland Falls. We named our company Wūru, the Māori word for “wool.” Our goal with Wūru has always been to enhance active lifestyles with high-quality products that ensure comfort, no matter the adventure. Whether running, hiking, or walking, we want our products to support every step. Naturally, we knew we wanted to evolve into the merino wool apparel space. While we knew we always wanted to be manufactured in the USA, we recognized the need for better control over our production process and saw the challenges in the American apparel industry with our partner manufacturers. That’s why we opened our own factory in Salt Lake City, Utah. This move allows us to uphold our high standards, support our local community, and reduce our environmental impact.
