This large case contains twenty-five knives with blond horn handles, from the Chabrier cutlery workshop located on Rue de la République in Saint-Denis. The set includes twelve large table knives, twelve small knives for starters or desserts, and a matching cheese knife. The manufacture dates from the first half of the 20th century, from the 1930s to the 1950s. The handles are carved from a translucent blond horn with honeyed and amber hues, each piece displaying its own veins and shades. No two are identical, giving the set a particular warmth and vitality. The stainless steel blades bear the oval cartouche ACIER S.T INOXYDABLE, a mark of the quality sought at the time. The original case, covered in brown crocodile-style material, retains its cream fabric interior and the gold-stamped Chabrier cutler’s mark under the lid. It shows some signs of use consistent with its age, while the blades and handles remain in very good preserved condition.
