Much adored as the goddess of love, sexual desire, and beauty, my Aphrodite oil also pays tribute to one of Aphrodite's earlier associations as a sailor's goddess of the sea. Aphrodite is one of a long line of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern goddesses, including Astarte, Ashtoreth, and Ashera. She is said to have been engendered from Uranus' severed genitals, after Cronus chopped them off and Gaia tossed them into the sea. A foam developed around Uranus' members, and eventually Aphrodite bubbled forth in the foam. She is a daughter of Zeus in later cycles, although she was a Great Goddess in earlier Cyprus. Aphrodite oil smells spicy and sweet, with a touch of the sea, provided by Cypress essential oil. Devotees of Aphrodite would wear this, as would any woman seeking to develop her powers of seduction, conversational arts, or improved self image.
