About Vellum Street

Locally minded, sustainably focused, & chef made, we source many otherwise discarded ingredients from area restaurants & farms, seeing their value & saving them from waste bins. Starting with biocompatable grass fed tallow, we make gentle and effective soaps, candles & skincare, scented with only essential oils & absolutes, & colored only with plants & clays, for a skin and environment loving indulgence. Our founder Melissa Torre was a chef focusing on nutrition & food sustainability before launching Vellum Street. For Melissa, making soap began as a way to reduce food waste in her own cafe & control what went on her skin. Staying true to these beginnings, we source grass fed tallow, citrus peels, cold brewed coffee grounds & more to make gentle & effective skin care! All of our glass packaging is post consumer, upcycled & processed by a local glassblower through their non-profit. Beyond fair trade, an average of 70-80% of our ingredients & packaging come from less than 100 miles of our studio in the Wissahickon Valley of Philadelphia, & every single person in our supply chain earns a living wage. We use all food grade ingredients, truly making us the soap you wish your mouth got washed out with!
