About Kinzoku

Kinzoku, which means metal in Japanese, was founded by Ibai Demirdache. As the daughter and granddaughter of jewelry designers, Ibai had an interest in jewelry from an early age. After graduating from school, she didn’t immediately take on the family tradition. In fact, she started her career as a diplomat. Posted to Japan, she apprenticed in her spare time with a Japanese metalsmith. It’s there, that she learned to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of good design. On her return to Canada, she founded Kinzoku Custom (KinzokuCustom.com) and came full circle to carry on the family tradition. Fast forward a few years... Ibai's daughter came to her one day with a drawing and said “mama, this is my cufflink design”. That started her on a path designing cufflinks and necklaces made with children’s art. She's since expanded to include a range of jewelry & accessories including a take home kit. Aptly named, MADE WITH YOUR ART, this line reflects Kinzoku's core philosophy: the best gifts are the ones that tell a story and as she tells her clients, "let us tell yours." Quality, innovativeness & imagination are the roots behind the Kinzoku magic & reflect the diverse people behind the brand. Kinzoku’s jewelry is made in Canada of enamel and nickel plated brass with sterling silver and 18K gold plated findings.
