My journey into candle-making began with a spark of curiosity during lockdown, but perhaps the seed was planted long before that. Growing up in Oban, a quaint seaside town in Scotland, I was surrounded by the fresh, earthy scents of the ocean and pine forests. These memories became part of who I am, connecting me to nature and sparking a deep appreciation for the calming power of scent. When I was 12, my family moved to London, a bustling city with its own unique aromas, where I would eventually begin a 30-year career in corporate sales. Yet, no matter how much I threw myself into my work, my heart never lost its desire for creativity and my love for the peace and beauty of natural, handmade things. My creative path was one I put on hold for a long time. I trained as a hairdresser early on, working with my hands and focusing on the details, but I eventually shifted gears to a corporate life that kept me busy and driven for decades. It was during the quiet moments, however, that my mind would drift back to the idea of creating something I could call my own. When the world came to a standstill during the pandemic, it finally allowed me the time and space to explore those creative urges. I found myself drawn to the art of candle-making, initially as a relaxing escape and a way to revisit the sensory memories I loved so much.
