The Company started by selling top-quality fresh Oyster Mushrooms to Colorado’s best restaurants. We often heard, "These are the best we've seen!" But we wanted to go further. That's how King Frog™ brand jerky started. Its development set some high goals for a “Crafted Mushroom Jerky”. For starters, we wanted to make a true ‘jerky,’ not just another ‘snack.’ It had to LOOK like jerky, CHEW like jerky and TASTE like jerky. Because Oyster Mushrooms are more fibrous and less ‘spongy’ than other mushroom strains like Shitake and Portabella, we stared one step ahead. We only use the caps of Oyster Mushrooms (no stems) which closely mimic the look and texture of meat. From there, it was our focus to get the ingredients, production elements, and tastes perfected. We’ve done that after many years of experimentation. No rushing a product to market We’ve put our jerky up against a wide range of the competition. Many ‘foodies’ and chefs have tried our Crafted Mushroom Jerky, and these folks were amazed to learn our jerky was not a meat product. Many had poor experiences with other mushroom or “vegan” (soybean) jerkies – King Frog™ changed their mind. King Frog™ Crafted Mushroom Jerky is not a mechanized or processed product. It is not a soy derivative. It’s natural, all the way. We grow our own mushrooms right here in Berthoud Colorado -- we do not import them.
