About Pila Stone

In 2021, we watched a report on nature and people in the Allgäu region. There, a ball grinder was shown at work. We were fascinated by how this man made a beautiful ball out of an inconspicuous stone. We wanted to know more about the production of such a natural stone sphere. After intensive research, we were able to develop a method of production that enabled us to grind a natural stone ball from a simple boulder from the field ourselves. Even the first self-made balls were beautiful and enchanted us. Gradually, there were more and more spheres that served as decoration in our living room, kitchen, bedroom. Our neighbors, friends and visitors envied us for our balls and so we started making them for interested parties. Demand quickly grew and we decided to build a ball grinding machine ourselves. After initial difficulties, however, a self-designed and built ball grinding machine could be put into operation. We continue to attach great importance to craftsmanship and none of our natural stone balls is like the other. We don't produce mass-produced goods, but each ball is unique. By the way, our balls are not treated, as is usual in some Asian countries, to artificially change the color or shine.Read their story
