We are an Austin company who has been offering a sustainable charcoal for ten years! Charcoal manufacturers are chopping down trees, contributing to forest degradation. They rely on wood and wood-based byproducts to produce charcoal, preferring tropical woods due to their qualities that contribute to slower burning times but resulting in 20% of the world’s forest degradation. To combat this problem, we need alternative methods of creating charcoal that do not rely on hardwoods and softwoods. Our promising solution is to use coconut shells, which are considered an agricultural waste product. By making charcoal from coconut shells, we protect 12 trees per ton produced: an equivalent of two to three cubic meters of timber.Read their story
