About Weingut Benedikt Nilles

In 1947, my grandparents Benedikt and Margarethe Nilles continued to take over the farm with agriculture, animal husbandry and viticulture. As tourism in the Moselle Valley grew, they reoriented their business from 1970. Agriculture and animal husbandry were abandoned and they now concentrated on guest rooms, vineyards and the sale of the wines in bottles. My parents, Rainer and Elisabeth Nilles, took over the winery in 1980 and built a new business building in 1990. They expanded the winery to five hectares of vineyards with many vineyards on steep and steep slopes. I myself was trained as a winemaker in renowned wineries on the Moselle. This was followed by studies as a viticulture and cellar technician in Veitshöchsheim (Würzburg), as well as stays abroad in the USA, New Zealand and Austria. As the current owner of the business, I am of course still looking forward to the support of my parents. Our positive attitude towards nature has driven us to actively pursue nature conservation in our winery. Since 2013, we have been part of the “Partnerbetrieb Naturschutz” network. By grazing fallow land with our goats, we protect the growth of beneficial insects in the vineyard. Read their story
