About NYMX

We (two guys from Brooklyn and Woodstock, NY) and our wives have been friends and travelers for 30 years. We’ve developed a deep interest in exploring the more remote areas of Mexico. We became avid collectors of Mexican crafts and developed a great appreciation of Mexican artisanship, meeting many of the warm, wonderful, creative people behind the work. Along the way, we fell in love with “carteras”, or card holders. Rather than dealing with overloaded wallets, all we really needed while traveling were a few cards, IDs and cash. Carteras do the job - they're sleek, handsome and slim enough to fit in a shirt pocket or any pant pocket. We both loved the side benefit of sparing ourselves the back pain caused by fat, bulging wallets in back pockets! Now we no longer use any other wallet or billfold. Our personal Carteras have only improved with age. The quality leather has patinaed perfectly, is broken in, and continues to hold all contents. Friends, relatives, and neighbors regularly ask about the carteras which caused us to think. After years of visiting a variety of Mexico’s "pueblos magicos" or magical villages we discovered a real gem: Guanajuato. A picturesque city about five hours by bus from Mexico City. A conversation with the artisan led to his workshop and finally a visit to his house and family. We met Alejandro and had found one of the best leathermen in Guanajuato.
