Royal Posthumus is one of Europe's largest suppliers of stamps, signs and engravings for offices, printing houses, the packaging industry and the security sector. Royal Posthumus has been a family business since its inception. On June 1, 1865, Jan Danièl Posthumus opened a shop in Amsterdam on today's Damstraat, which specializes in the production of metal stamps and high-quality engravings. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was taken over by his sons Willem and Louis. In 1939, they sold the company to Johannes van der Plaats, who had started as managing director three years earlier. Thirty years later, in 1969, he handed over the management of the company to his son Taco. Since 2006, Royal Posthumus has been managed by Johannes's grandson, Nicholas van der Plaats.
