About Blue Souk
Blue Souk is a U.S. brand built on direct relationships with Tunisian artisan communities. I'm Chris Baumgartel, Blue Souk's founder — and I've spent seven years building those relationships in-country, in Arabic, across five, unique craft regions. What we carry is specific: we're starting with handwoven rugs from El Kef & Toujane, Matmata in Tunisia. As of this Summer, we're building relationships with other artisans, too: stoneware fired in Nabeul, handmade pottery from Guellala, Djerba, olive wood objects from Sfax, and fouta textiles from Ksar Hellal. Every piece is made by an artisan, in a documented place, from materials native to that region. Lastly, stay tuned for the launch of the Blue Souk's internal provenance system, Fingerprints™. Every Blue Souk product will eventually ship with a Fingerprints™ record & QR Code — our verified provenance system that documents the maker, the handicraft tradition, the materials, and the origin. This is not a marketing claim. It's a proven value add that helps preserve local traditions. Unlike companies that bury thousands of years of tradition under labels like "Artisanal" or "Handmade," we're working to keep the heritage genuinely alive.
