Yes, there REALLY is a Dr Tim. DrTim’s Aquatics is the merging of the twin passions of our founder Dr. Tim: fishkeeping and science. We make setting-up and maintaining an aquarium easy by sharing practical advice and proven products developed through years of experience and our own real research. Dr. Tim got his first aquarium at age 6 after two goldfish he had won at a school fair died .Responding to pleas of help, his uncle brought over an extra tank and showed Dr. Tim the basics (Dr. Tim still has that aquarium!). In not too many years with a garage full of aquariums and visions from The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau in his head Dr. Tim was determined to become a marine biologist. Obtaining advanced degrees in the science of keeping fish andaquatic microbiology was just the logical result of a boy’s dreams. Dr. Tim received both his B.Sc. in Biology, with a year studying limnology at Uppsala University, Sweden, and M.Sc. inBiology from San Diego State University where he studied ammonia excretion and toxicity on fish. After stints in the USPeace Corps and as an aquaculturist he joined Marineland Aquarium Products. While there he obtained a Ph.D. at UC Santa Barbara in Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology using molecular methods to discover several novel nitrifying bacteria in aquariums.
